Why courgettes?
We’re big fans of the courgette - the urge to grow our own had much to do with pursuing the idea of getting an allotment. Last year’s courgettes were grown in the garden as well as on the plot, which wasn’t ours until midway through the growing season. We successfully grew eight or nine plants of the All Green Bush variety:

And the courgettes for 2007 are:

(Yes, I know that these last two are squashes - but they are cucurbits!)
Update 26 July 2007
The Tondo di Piacenza seems to be our hardiest and most prolific courgette so far this season, with extra spikey leaf stems: we have so many big ones that I’ve resorted to putting one in a cake today.

The Jemmer yellow courgettes have a lovely flavour but seem to be slower-growing than the other varieties. The poor old butternut squash look a bit sorry for themselves (we left them indoors rather too long before planting out) and I don’t we’ll be getting any this year. We haven’t got around to planting the curly squash.
These varieties look like being our only cucurbit successes this year.
