This rather daft, dreamy photo shows two small bulbs of fennel that seem to have planted themselves and avoided the fate of their parents, who went to seed some time ago: it’s thriving in the unexpectedly warm autumn weather.
The sunshine made the most of this autumnal scene at the allotment site.

The fennel has bolted, before forming bulbs. (We ate some anyway.) There are also a few other veggie flowers at the plot. A radish, left to go to seed.
Very late (perhaps too late) borlotti beans - not enough sun for these, I think.

On Wednesday morning, three tiny loops of fennel were beginning to sprout from the seed tray. I took the above picture on Thursday, when more had appeared and the first lot were no longer loops but standing up straight.

Earlier this week (Tuesday, I think) J planted fennel seeds - Wadenroman, yet another Italian bargain from Gubbio market last summer - in the seed tray at the front on the right.
