Nasturtiums and Colour

According to Wikipedia, ‘nasturtium’ means ‘nose-tweaker’. I’m not entirely sure what this means, although I haven’t ventured down to sniff it yet and assume the name refers to its scent. I am undecided about whether to eat them, having planted just a few to provide some colour next to the courgettes and broad beans.

Towards Marrowhood

I returned from ten days away to find courgettes approaching ‘marrowhood’, as Jane Grigson put it, though still sweet enough to be sautéed like their smaller selves.
The artichokes have flowered the most vivid and beautiful colour, which the camera doesn’t quite capture.
Winged Visitor

I think this is a speckled wood, settled on the leaf of a potato plant. Whatever it is, I prefer it to the other winged visitors (the cherry and gooseberry thieves!).
