Very small courgettes of the Tondo di Piacenza variety are appearing at last.
There were a few little Defenders too, though no Jemmer yellow courgettes as yet - some of the plants around the edge of the bed have come to grief in one way or another and the Jemmers seem to have suffered the most. [...]

We arrived at the plot this morning to find a swarm of bees firmly in residence in the largest cherry tree.

Most of the courgettes were flowering by yesterday morning.
The artichokes are really beginning to grow now slugs are being kept at bay.
The beetroot, rainbow chard, French breakfast radishes, shallots and even the turnips - which seemed to not be appearing at all - are doing well.

Some of the courgettes look healthier and are flowering at last. I could see male flowers on a Defender and a Tondo di Piacenza. Some of the other courgettes have fairly vigorous leaf growth.

We’d had enough.

One of the artichokes is showing signs of recovery from the slug onslaught. Maybe the slug pellets (apparently less harmful to birds and other creatures than some types) will give it and the others a fighting chance.
